The Southern Metropolitan Region Palliative Care Consortium
is an alliance of palliative care service providers
that aims to support improvements in the integration and coordination
of palliative care services. The Consortium includes services
that work in the community (caring for people in their
homes), in acute settings (caring for people
in hospital) and in inpatient settings (hospices and palliative
care units).
Palliative care is care provided to people of
all ages who have a life limiting illness, with little or no
prospect of cure, and for whom the primary treatment goal is
quality of life.
